The Locomotive
A technical periodical issued from 1867 by the Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company in Hartford, Connecticut, for engineers, factory owners, and inspectors concerned with boiler safety and explosions. The plates are hard-edged line diagrams — boiler settings in elevation and section, flue and shell cross-sections, valve and gauge fittings — many printed white on a dense black ground, giving designers reversed outline drawings, concentric ring forms, and lettered reference keys.
