The Locomotive
A trade periodical issued from 1867 by the Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company of Hartford, Connecticut, for boiler owners, engineers and inspectors reporting on locomotive and stationary boilers and their explosions. Plates are reversed-out white line drawings on solid black: rivet holes as plain circles, dashed dimension lines with arrowheads, fractional-inch figures, and ruled plate edges, usable as stark geometric diagram motifs.
