The Locomotive
The Locomotive was the monthly journal of the Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company, begun in 1867 in Hartford, Connecticut and written for engineers, boiler owners and plant inspectors. Its wood engravings show pipe hangers, steam drums, valves and fittings in section and elevation, keyed with italic letters, with cylinders shaded into smooth tonal rolls and timber joists drawn as dense grain and end-grain rings.
