The car wheel; giving the results of a series of investigations
A 1907 technical report by George Little Fowler on tests of railroad car wheels, issued in Pittsburgh by the Schoen Steel Wheel Co. for railway mechanical engineers and purchasing agents. Its plates run from high-contrast photomicrographs of steel grain and fracture surfaces to inky silhouettes of wear patterns and ruled cross-sections of wheel rims dimensioned in fractions of an inch — usable as abstract textures, blot shapes, and precise line diagrams.
