Handbook of the steam-engine. Containing all the rules required for the right construction and management of engines of every class, with the easy arithmetical solution of those rules. Constituting a key to the 'Catechism of the steam-engine.'
A technical handbook by John Bourne, published in New York by D. Appleton in 1874, giving calculation rules for building and running steam engines, aimed at engineers, mechanics and engine drivers. The plates reproduced here are engine indicator diagrams: bare line traces of pressure against stroke, some solid and some dotted, floating on toned paper with set-off type showing through.
