A monthly journal issued from 1867 by the Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company in Hartford, Connecticut, reporting boiler explosions, inspection practice and steam plant fittings to engineers, owners and insurers. The wood-engraved plates show pipes, flanges, hangers and support straps in section and elevation, with letter keys, dotted centre lines, ruled shading on cylinders and sawn-timber end grain drawn as concentric rings, offering ready-made technical diagram vocabulary and hatching textures.
