Treatise on mills and mill work
A two-volume engineering manual on mill construction and power transmission by the Manchester millwright and engineer Sir William Fairbairn, published in London in 1861 for practising millwrights, mechanics and factory owners. Wood-engraved sections, plans and elevations of shafts, bevel and mortise gearing, bearings and water wheels, drawn with hatched cast iron and keyed letters, give designers clean mechanical line work and gear-tooth patterns.
