Inside Out Library

The architecture of the Renaissance in France; a history of the evolution of the arts of building, decoration and garden design under classical influence from 1495 to 1830

Ward, William Henry, 1856-1924 · 1911 · London, B.T. Batsford · 260 pictures

A two-volume architectural history by William Henry Ward, published in London by Batsford in 1911, tracing French building, decoration and garden design from 1495 to 1830 for architects, students and antiquarians. Halftone photographs of châteaux, church fronts and townhouses sit beside measured line elevations with foot-and-metre scales, giving designers dormers, pilaster orders, carved doorcases, steep roofs and mullioned window grids in both tonal and outline form.
