Machinery and processes of the industrial arts, and apparatus of the exact sciences
Frederick A. P. Barnard's survey of machinery, industrial processes, and scientific instruments, printed by the U.S. Government Printing Office in 1869 as a report to American engineers and officials on European manufacturing exhibits. The 147 wood-engraved figures are mostly sectional and elevation diagrams of pumps, turbines, valves, and gearing, keyed with italic letters and filled with hatching and stipple, giving designers hard-line cutaway forms, bolted flanges, and lettered callouts to reuse.
