A teacher's manual for freehand drawing in intermediate schools, written by Walter Smith and issued by Gage in Toronto and Winnipeg in 1876 for classroom instructors. The plates are white line diagrams reversed out of stippled black grounds: pentagons, rosettes, ogee leaf forms and quatrefoils built over dotted construction lines and axes, usable as geometric ornament or grid motifs.
