The five orders of architecture

Vignola, 1507-1573, Juglaris, Tommaso, Locke, Warren S · 1889 · [Boston, Press of Berwick & Smith] · 32 pictures

An 1889 Boston edition of Vignola's sixteenth-century treatise on the five classical orders, edited by Tommaso Juglaris and Warren S. Locke as a drawing manual for architecture students and draftsmen. The plates are line-engraved orthographic elevations and sections — arcades framed by Doric and Ionic columns, pedestals, cornices and entablature profiles — each with module dimensions, half-plan insets, measuring scales and a Roman numeral in the corner, giving a designer clean architectural line work and a ready vocabulary of drafting notation.
