A treatise on land-surveying; comprising the theory developed from five elementary principles; and the practice with the chain alone, the compass, the transit, the theodolite, the plane table, &c. Illustrated by four hundred engravings, and a magnetic chart
A technical textbook on land surveying by William Mitchell Gillespie, professor of civil engineering at Union College, issued by D. Appleton of New York in 1875 for engineering students and working surveyors. Some four hundred wood engravings give instrument diagrams, field geometry, and triangulation networks laid over coastlines and state outlines, offering designers thin-line figures, lettered angles, and skeletal map webs usable as abstract linear ornament.
