Appletons' cyclopaedia of applied mechanics: a dictionary of mechanical engineering and the mechanical arts
An illustrated American reference dictionary of mechanical engineering and the mechanical arts, edited by Park Benjamin and issued by D. Appleton in New York in 1880 for engineers, machinists and tradesmen. The numbered wood-engraved figures give sectional and elevation views of steam hammers, boilers, locomotives and rigged sailing hulls, with hatched masonry, ruled shading and lettered part keys useful as line-art machine diagrams and technical silhouettes.
