Appleton's dictionary of machines, mechanics, engine-work, and engineering
A two-volume American technical reference issued by D. Appleton & Co. in New York in 1861, compiling alphabetical entries on machines, engine-work and engineering for mechanics, millwrights and manufacturers. Numbered wood-engraved figures give plans, elevations and sections of shafting, gearing, lathes and mill machinery, drawn in fine hatched line — useful for diagram motifs, cutaway conventions and numbered figure labels.
