The microscopy of vegetable foods : with special reference to the detection of adulteration and the diagnosis of mixtures
A technical handbook of food microscopy by Andrew L. Winton, adapted from Josef Moeller's work, published in New York by John Wiley & Sons in 1906 for chemists and inspectors identifying adulterated grains, spices and other plant foods. The 474 line engravings show cross-sections and surface views of plant tissue at high magnification: cell walls drawn as irregular interlocking outlines, stomata, starch grains, fibres and stippled or solid black layers, giving designers ready-made organic tiling patterns, cellular textures and labelled diagram fragments.
