The castellated and domestic architecture of Scotland, from the twelfth to the eighteenth century
A five-volume architectural survey of Scottish castles, tower houses and manor houses by Edinburgh architects David MacGibbon and Thomas Ross, published by D. Douglas in 1887 for antiquaries and builders. The plates are pen-and-ink line drawings: perspective views of towers and crow-stepped gables, measured plans, sections and details of doorways, corbels and stairs, all rendered in fine parallel hatching suited to crisp reuse at small sizes.
